Eco- friendly aquatourism facilities are provided in the ambience of backwaters in Matsyafed fish farms at Njarakkal, Malippuram and Palaikkari.
Aqua Tourism at Matsyafed Malippuram Fish Farm, Ernakulam
The farm is very close to chappa beach in Elankunnappuzha panchayat. The farm is famous for the culture of Indian Grey Mullet ( Mugil cephalus ) which is popularly called “ Thirutha”. The fish ponds and canals around the farm including a mangrove island are ideal for aqua tourism. The Fish Farm has 46 acres of water body with 3 blocks of fish culture ponds.
Facilities like pedal boating, row boating, angling of fish are available.
The sea food restaurant attached to the farm is run by a women self help group selected under SGSY project of Central Govt. Special dishes made from farm fresh fishes, prawns and crabs are available in the restaurant at reasonable rate.
Hammocks and huts are provided on pond bunds as well as in mangrove forest. Tourists can enjoy the whistling sound of birds in mangrove forests. Tourists can also enjoy speed boating and witness fish jumping at north block of farm on payment of special fee of Rs.50 per head. It is a marvelous experience. A canal safari in boat is also arranged for back water cruise which is having rich greenery ambience.

How to reach the destination : Drive through Vallarpadom- Vypin- Paravur road, cross 3 Gosree bridges, right turn at LNG circle, after 3 kms reach hospital junction at Malippuram, turn left to Chappa beach road.

Aqua Tourism at Matsyafed Narakkal Fish Farm, Ernakulam
Narakkal Fish Farm is located in the heart of Vypin Island and located at Arattuvazhi beach adjacent to Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. The place beautifully surrounded by greenery and water. This brackish water fish farm is famous for culture of grey mullets (Mugil cephalus). Farm has 44 acres of water body with 3 blocks of fish culture ponds. Pearl spots (Karimeen) are common in this farm which is declared as the State Fish of Kerala. Tourists are allowed to catch pearl spots by angling. Hooks and line with bait are provided to tourists for angling.
The food supply to tourists is managed by the seafood restaurant run by a women self help group selected under Tsunami Emergency Assistance Project of Department of Fisheries, Govt.of Kerala. Special fish dishes like karimeen pollichathu,fish molly, crab roast, prawn masala etc are available in the restaurant at reasonable rate.
Tourists can take rest in hammocks under shade of coconut palm leaves and can realx in huts and benches constructed on bunds of fish ponds. Tourists can witness sunset at Aarattuvazhi beach which is just a walkable distance of 200 meters away.

PALAIKARI AQUA TOURISM CENTRE.
Palaikari Aqua Tourism Centre has become one of the famous Tourist destinations in Kottayam. Visitors can enjoy pedal boating, row boating, angling and can rest on bamboo benches, hammocks and swings along the farm Bunds without additional cost. They can also taste fried and roasted fresh Karimeen, Tiger prawns, Crabs etc. caught from our Farm, at reasonable rate.
HALL FOR MEETING
Families, Clubs and Business groups can assemble here for get together, meetings etc, for which full fledged hall of 70 no. capacity is available. House boats are also available for lake cruise. It is a thrilling experience to cruise through Vembanad Lake.
NEW PALAIKARI TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The new Palaiakri Tourism development Project is under construction. Air conditioned restaurant, modern kitchen, Tourist facilitation centre, viewing galleries, 500 m. long walkways along farm bunds etc will be opened soon for the visitors.

2. No entry fee for children below 5 years age
3. The age limit for child ticket will be 5 to 12 years
4. Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays of state government will be treated as holidays for special rates
5. The rates for huts and speed boats will be in addition to the entry fee
6. A minimum rate of Rs.500/- will be charged per trip for speed boat - lake crossing and fish jumping
7. A minimum rate of Rs.500/- will be charged for hut-half day and Rs.1000/- for hut-full day (10am to 6pm)
8. Above fee are only for entry , Cost for food , drinks are extra
